Hi, I’m Jinta from Japan. This time, I’m going to make a Filipino home-style dish, pork adobo, using “adobo powder”!
Mama Sita’s, which is a maker of “adobo powder” that is often used by Filipinos. I expect that this will help me to reproduce a taste closer to the real thing. What kind of flavor will it have? Let’s get started!
What is “Adobo powder (Adobo Mix)”?
This is an adobo powder that makes it easy to make “adobo,” a Filipino dish. Adobo is a Tagalog word meaning marinade, and is said to have originated in Spanish cuisine (adobato). It means to marinate meat. Adobo is a typical Filipino home-style dish.
Here is the product we will be using this time, a mama sita’s product.
Mama Sita’s “Adobo powder” package
Let’s check the package first.
Product Description
This garlicky concoction of spices serves as a perfect base for authentic Filipino Adobo.
Ingredients
Garlic powder, Cane sugar, Iodized salt, Monosodium glutamate, Citric acid, Black pepper and Caramel colour.
Adobo recipe
Makes 6-8 serving

- 1kg Meat, cut into cubes
- 1 cup(250ml)water

Way of making

- Remove meat from the marinade and pan fry in hot oil until the edges turn golden brown.
- Pour in the marinade and bring to a boil.
- Lower the heat and simmer until the meat is tender and the sauce has thickened. Add water as needed.
Let’s make some pork adobo!
Pork Adobo Ingredients
- 1 bag of adobo stock
- 250 ml water
- 2 tablespoons salad oil
- 600 g pork
- 4 boiled eggs
- 1 onion
The package listed 1 kg of meat, but I used a boiled egg to make up for the lack of meat (laugh). In this case, I prepared salad spinach. Even children can easily eat it.
Adobo Powder Taste
This is what the adobo element looks like when it is served in a bowl. It is a brown powder.
I’m curious so I’m going to taste it.
Ethnic but Japanese friendly! Garlic and sourness are the key. I can already imagine how delicious it is.
I would dissolve the adobo base in 250 ml of water. You can call it a marinade.
Pork Adobo – How to make
Marinate the meat and onions in the marinade in which the adobo ingredients have been dissolved. You can use a bowl, but a sturdy plastic bag is easier for marinating.
Remove the air like this, soak the whole mixture, and wait for 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes. The meat and onions are lightly discolored.
In a pan heated with salad oil, brown the meat until the surface of the pork is browned.
Throw in onions and boiled eggs.
Then pour in the marinade made from adobo powder.
Heat over high heat and remove any scum if it appears (if it bothers you). Simmer until done.
It was simmered for 20 minutes without a lid. The broth is also thickened.
Place the dish on a plate and the pork adobo is ready to serve.
Great subtle acidity! Flavor is ethnic. It tastes similar to the soy sauce base in Japan. Tastes great with meat, and goes great with rice!

Summary
This time, I made a Filipino home-style dish, pork adobo, using “adobo powder”. Its flavor exceeded my expectations! I am happy to report that my elementary school sons ate all of it. It is also very easy to prepare. A little different ethnic flavor at home! Of course, it would be delicious with chicken, too.
